Deciding that people would believe anything written in the Bible, Hal carved a statue of a giant man, made it appear petrified and buried it in the ground in Cardiff, New York.
He waited over a year before unearthing the “Cardiff Giant”, charging people money for the chance to come and see it, and by the time he was exposed, he had made $430,000 in today’s money.
