US-Pakistan F-16 Deal: ‘Who are you fooling?’…This sarcasm has not been done on anyone but America, one of the biggest forces in the world. Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has given this befitting reply to him from the soil of America itself. Jaishankar made this remark about the deal to upgrade F-16 fighter jets with Pakistan, which is being discussed a lot. This statement of the Indian Foreign Minister is very important in many ways. If we look at the history of America’s relations with Pakistan and India, then the real meaning of this statement is understood.

India’s stand on America has not always been very strict. Relations between the two countries soured several times, but eventually everything turned out fine. India has always objected to funding and providing arms to Pakistan, but the way S Jaishankar has responded to the US, it is clear that India is now changing its stand somewhere. Let us understand what is its real meaning.

America and India relations
First let us understand the relationship between America and India. If we look into the history, it is known that most of the time there was tension between the two countries. Since the beginning of the Cold War, India’s stance remained neutral. He did not directly hate America, but relations were not very good. During this time the closeness between India and Russia increased. When India’s war with China happened in 1962, then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru wrote a letter to US President Kennedy. In this, he had said that America should ask China to accept the fixed boundary line.

Indo-US war could have broken out in 1971
After this the era of Indira Gandhi started and during this time America made its stand clear. During the Indo-Pakistani War in 1971, America was seen standing with Pakistan. During this, America supported Pakistan by playing the role of a mediator. Then America had deployed its military fleet near the Bay of Bengal to intimidate India. America took this step on the pretext of evacuating American citizens. During this, America’s destroyer warships moved towards India, which were equipped with nuclear weapons. This was a strategy of America to force India to stop the war. During this, there was a rift in India’s relations with America. Indira Gandhi had even said that if a single bullet had been fired from the side of the American fleet, then there could have been a third world war.

After this, in 1974, India gave a befitting reply to America by conducting nuclear tests. Despite the sharp eyes of the American, India did this, the result was that the relationship between India and America deteriorated for many years. Relations between the two countries began to improve during economic liberalization in 1991, after a long period of soured relations, but in 1998, once again due to nuclear tests, the relationship between the US and India deteriorated. The US recalled its ambassador and imposed sanctions against India.

After the Kargil war in 1999, in 2001, the Bush administration lifted all the sanctions imposed on India. Since then, a period of improvement in the relationship started. In 2006, George Bush and Manmohan Singh signed the nuclear deal. A year before this, in 2005, for the first time, the Indo-US Navy exercised together. After this, even during the era of Obama and Trump, the relationship between India and America was not too bad. However, America also held Pakistan’s hand during this period.

Pakistan has been kind to America
The stories of friendship between Pakistan and America are very old. After the help in 1971, if we talk about F-16 fighter jets, then America first made a deal of these fighter jets with Pakistan in 1981. During this, the US broke the deal midway and refused to deliver 28 aircraft. It was said that this was done due to the possibility of a nuclear attack. America also returned the money taken from Pakistan.

When did America help Pakistan?
After this, on September 11, 2001, the biggest terrorist attack in the history of America took place. Al Qaeda terrorists blew up the Twin Towers from the plane. Thousands of people died in this attack. In view of this incident, the then Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf extended a hand of friendship to America and said that he would help it in the fight against terrorism. From here the ban imposed on the old F-16 deal was also removed and a fleet of these aircraft with the latest technology was handed over to Pakistan.

  • In the year 2002, 14 billion dollars was given to Pakistan by the US. It was told from the US that this help has been given to stop terrorism and extremism on the border.
  • This was followed by a deal worth $62 million in 2011, in which all the fighter jets were to be maintained. It contained aircraft parts and modern accessories.
  • In 2022-23 also, a deal of about 70 thousand crores was done between Pakistan and America, under which about 8 F-16 aircraft were dealt. These aircraft were equipped with new technology.
  • From 2001 to 2022-23, the US gave a total of $ 33 billion to Pakistan. On which Donald Trump put the brakes in the year 2022-23.

While giving a slap to Pakistan, Donald Trump said that, for the last 15 years, we are helping Pakistan with stupidity, but they have given us nothing but lies and deceit. They thought our leaders were stupid. The terrorists (Talibans) against whom we kept fighting in Afghanistan, Pakistan helped them. During this, Trump had announced a freeze on $ 300 million aid to Pakistan.

What is the F-16 deal with Pakistan?
Now Biden’s stance seems to be soft on Pakistan. The current F-16 deal is being viewed from this perspective. America has signed a $450 million deal with Pakistan. Under this, Pakistan’s F-16 aircraft will be upgraded. Most of the F-16 aircraft in Pakistan’s fleet are out of date, that is why they are now being polished. In which India had already objected to this deal, which included repairing the engine and replacing the bad parts, on which the US had said that India had already been informed about the deal and this deal was for India. There is no message of any kind.

Now during an event in Washington, when External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was asked about the deal between Pakistan and America, he said that – everyone knows where and for whom the F-16 planes are used. Who are you fooling by saying such a thing? This statement is being seen with the new kind of relationship of India with America.
